The United Nations main job was to prevent events like these:

It tried to keep friendly relations between countries to prevent war 
 Its purpose is to protect the people from threats to there freedom and peace. 
 
 
Causes: 
 
When news and details of the holocaust came out people didnt want anything like that to ever happen again. So leaders of the world created The United nations. 
The United Nations wanted to restore international peace and security WWII and The Holocaust took away. Conflict between other countries was another cause of the formation of the United Nations The restoration of equality and human rights was another factor that led to the creation of the United Nations. Religous tolerance and acceptance was also another issue that led to the formation of the United Nations. 
 
 
Effects: 
 
The United Nations directly impacts the aggressors in our society. 
They can take measures on country's who are threatening or disturbing international peace. They can compromise situations and find a peaceful resolution or use force to maintain international peace in society. The United Nations impacts the world because it prevents altercations and violence and uses humanitarianism and peacekeeping to solve problems.

 The United Nations today is trying to prevent Terrorism.The United Nations make compromises and resolve issues with terrorist groups preventing them from attacking. The United nations have come up with a strategy to help better there counter terrorism efforts. The UN wants to address issues that spread terrorism. They also want to build state capacity to prevent and combat terrorism. They also want to ensure the equality of all men and reinforce the rights all humans have to stop the spread of terrorism.

 Are the peacekeeping and operations made by the UN lasting? 
<ul><li>Compromises and resolutions made by the UN don't solve the economic problems in one's country. It lasts in the short term but problems will always arise if there is a economic barrier or conflict with other country's </li></ul>Would a policy that promoted economic growth around the world and help other country's economy's work better than the UN?

 TREATY OF VERSAILLES: 
 
 Description of the Policy: 
 The Treaty of Versailles was a peace settlement signed after World War 1. It stated that Germany accept sole responsibility for the war.It also states that the nation pays for all damages for the other countries left in ruins due to the war. Also, the treaty said Germany should lose a certain amount of its own territory to a number of surrounding countries and being stripped of all its overseas colonies. Germany was also required to substantially reduce its military to limit its ability to make war again.

The United States today: 
 A good example of a current issue that has happened within the past year is the Libyan Revolution. NATO forces brought their soldiers and attacked Libya during the revolution to try and help the Libyan people from political unrest. The forces basically wanted Gaddafi to step down as president, and they would do whatever they needed to do until he steps down. America does not control any regions in Libya but they still went to the country with other European nations to help out. America did not follow the foreign policy because the American foreign policy is all about diplomacy and finding different alternatives to solutions other than waging war which is exactly what America and other European nations did. 
 
Connections with Earlier Foreign Affairs: 
The foreign policy was basically what you can call international relations or diplomacy.&quot;Foreign policy dictates how a country will act with respect to other countries socially, economically, and militarily, and to a somewhat lesser extent, how it behaves towards non-state actors.&quot; Going back to the Monroe Doctrine. America was not to interfere with any type of international affairs of European nations. Yet, during WW1 America contradicts itself as the nation ends up joining the war between France, England, and Germany. The reason why America ended up joining the war is because Germany sank Lusitania, a British passenger liner with 22 Americans aboard.

Now let's debate: 
I personally do not believe that the Treaty of Versailles was a just policy whatsoever. Why, you might ask? Well, how can you put all of the blame on Germany for the war. How are they suppose to just accept all responsibility for the war, when they were not the only people that were involved in it? It's not fair at all. I just believe that it is a pretty harsh punishment to give. When only one nation is punished yet so many more were involved? Yes, I do understand that Germany was a major reason for the war but that still does not matter. I think that if Germany was punished everyone should be punished as well for even getting involved in the war. Everyone should have paid a certain amount of money to help their own nation, rather than Germany paying for all the damages for ALL the nations. That is the only way I would of supported this treaty. Other than that I do not really support its actions at all.

This policy was created by President Wilson in an attempt to make peace after World War I. It discusses the issues on why wars occur and also tries to fix the issues by coming up with new points in order to get rid of the problems.

Now let's debate: 
I believe Wilson's 14 points is a necessary policy to have today, because it takes that extra step to ensure that the United States can stay away from having Great Wars. It does this by fixing problems that can lead to countries going to war. This promotes peace. For example, Wilson's 14 points forbids secret agreements, promotes free navigation of all seas, ends all economic barriers between countries, has countries to reduce weapon numbers, has all decisions regarding the colonies be impartial, removes the German army from Russia, gives Belgium their independence, lets France regain control of Alsace-Lorraine, allows all Italians to live in Italy, self-determination to be allowed for all those living in Austria-Hungary, self-determination should be allowed for Balkan states, says Turkish people should be governed by the Turkish government and Non-Turks in the old Turkish Empire should govern themselves, an independent Poland should be created which should have access to the sea, and a league of nations be set up. This is all very important because it works to promote peace within the countries.
